Budget, mid-range or premium?
There is no single "best" tyre, only the best tyre for your car, your mileage and your budget. Premium brands tend to lead on wet grip, braking and how long they last, which can make them cheaper per mile if you cover a lot of distance. Budget and mid-range tyres can be a sensible choice for lower-mileage drivers.
The honest answer is that we would rather fit you a good mid-range tyre you can afford than push a premium one you cannot. Tell us how and how much you drive, and we will point you the right way.
Reading the Tyre Label
Every new tyre sold in the UK carries a label grading three things that are worth understanding:
- Fuel efficiency (rolling resistance), graded A to E
- Wet grip, graded A to E, which affects wet braking distance
- External noise, shown in decibels
Getting the Right Size and Type
Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall of your current tyres (for example 205/55 R16 91V). It is important to fit the correct size and speed rating for your car. If you are unsure, we will read it off for you and make sure what we fit is right.
Where to Buy
Buying locally means a real person checks the fitting, balances the wheels and is there if anything is not right afterwards, rather than a box arriving at your door. We supply and fit tyres in Hedge End with honest advice and fair prices.
