When should my cambelt be replaced?

Most manufacturers set an interval of around four to five years or somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The exact figure depends on your car, so give us your registration on 01489 662025 and we will tell you precisely when yours is due.

What happens if a cambelt snaps?

On an interference engine (most modern cars) a snapped belt lets the valves and pistons collide, which can bend valves and damage the cylinder head. The repair is usually far more expensive than a scheduled belt change, which is exactly why the interval matters.

Should I replace the water pump at the same time?

If your water pump is driven by the cambelt, yes. It is already exposed during the job, so replacing it then saves a second strip-down later if it fails. We will confirm whether yours is belt-driven when you book.

How long does a cambelt replacement take?

For most cars it is a half-day job, though some engines take longer where access is tight. We will give you a realistic time when we quote, and we serve drivers right across Southampton.

How much does a cambelt replacement cost?

It depends on your engine and whether the water pump is included, so we give you a clear written quote up front with no surprises. We won't be beaten on price or quality, so call us on 01489 662025 for a figure.

Cambelt Replacement

Cambelt Replacement Done Properly

Your cambelt (timing belt) keeps the top and bottom of your engine turning in perfect time. On most engines it is a service item with a fixed replacement interval, and if it is left too long it can snap without warning. On an interference engine that usually means bent valves, a wrecked cylinder head and a repair bill many times the cost of the belt.

We replace cambelts for drivers across Southampton every week. We fit quality parts, renew the tensioner and idler pulleys at the same time, and check the water pump where it is driven by the belt, because doing the job once and doing it right works out far cheaper than going back in.

“An honest, straightforward, helpful, and trustworthy garage. I've been going there for 12 years, and they've always done me right. Dan and Andy provide fantastic service and expertise at the front desk. Nick, Darren, Mike and Mark are highly skilled and experienced mechanics willing to take the time to do everything right. “I've used this company for years and years. They are honest (if a tyre doesn't need changing, they'll tell you) and keenly priced. The chap behind the desk must have been there for much of his working life: a familiar and trusted face. After years of buying all my tyres here, my trusty van is also serviced by them now, to the same high standard. You really can run a garage business with integrity and fairness; this place is the proof. Recommended without hesitation.”
